Why is there a hold on my card?
A pre-authorization hold is placed on the funds in your account whenever your debit card is used to make a point of sale (POS) purchase. This “hold” should be removed automatically when the actual transaction posts to your account.
In most cases, the pre-authorized amount will be an exact match to your purchase amount. However, sometimes they don’t match, and that is usually for gas, hotel/lodging, restaurant, or car rentals, because the authorization and posted transactions vary due to additional amounts for incidentals, security deposit, tip, etc. In those cases it can take longer for the hold to be removed and those funds made available to you.
There’s no action required on your part as the funds will become available to you once the hold expires, usually within a week.
